# about oss.codes
oss.codes is a workshop for rebuilding great software in the open. We find products worth existing for free — the tools we wish were public — and we ship transparent, self-hostable versions anyone can run.
principles
- transparent
- Every commit, issue, and decision happens in public. No private roadmap, no closed betas.
- forkable
- MIT-licensed by default. Clone it, self-host it, rip it apart. It is yours.
- no paywalls
- We rebuild solved problems so nobody has to pay rent on them. Hosting is optional, code is free.
- community-first
- Good first issues, fast reviews, real credit. Contributors become maintainers.
how it works
- 01 We spot a closed product solving a common problem.
- 02 We rebuild it in the open, from scratch, MIT-licensed.
- 03 We ship a live demo and full self-host docs.
- 04 The community forks, improves, and maintains it together.
